10 New Denim Rules You Gotta Know Now!

In-jean-ious. We've got tried (on) and true tips so you can nab blues ya love. Think: Serious butt-flatterers, how to go custom and when to spend a li'l more.

Pocket Watch
Wanna improve your rear view? If you're curvy, pass by ring or far-apart pockets. They make your booty look bigger (er, not in a good wag). If you're rail-thin, look for some detailing on your backside--it adds extra emphasis.

Tailor Made
Your jeans aren't set in stone. Find a pair that fits through the hips and thighs and then have a tailor take in the waist or shorten the inseam.
Hello Kitty
Leave major whiskers (those distressed lines on the thighs of jeans) to our feline friends. They're unflattering on everyone.

The High Road
Don't fear cuts with a higher waist. They're a little intimidating at first, but they lengthen gams and give you a smooth line from hip to heel.

Know When to Fold 'Em
It's brutal to sag see-ya to your fave blues. But if they've gotten too tight, too short or too ripped, it's time to send them to denim heaven. Hand down your done denim to younger sibs or chop them into sassy (not too Daisy Duke) cutoffs.

Twice as Nice
Found the perf fit? Consider buying two pairs. You'll add an extra set to the rotation and extend the life of your faves.

Seek Out Midnight
Ultra-dark rinses are much better for parties and nights on the town than your faded glories. Your new BFF? A dark pair of skinny or straight leg jeans. Versatile, girl.

Handle with Care
Wash your jeans inside out every few wears in warm water. If your denim is stretchy, throw it in the dryer on a low setting to return their shape. If the jeans are a li'l stiffer, you can let them air-dry.

Beware of Denim on Denim
It's tempting to match up two of the most amazing pieces in your closet (worn-in jean jacket fave jeans!). Truth is, matching denim looks more farmer than fashion. If you must, opt for a light jean top and dark bottoms.

Do the Math
We know: You're on a tight budget. If a pair of jeans is a li'l outta your range, figure out how often you'll wear 'em. Know that sometimes shelling out for a higher quality piece will pay off in the long run.
